i got problem when i deploy a .ova file , when the process of deploying is around 98 99 % an error comes say u can't go any farther !!!

I am creating ova file using VMware OVF tool .

And I want to use public Code Signing Certificate like published by Globalsign or Verisign.

But current OVF tool doucment is not introduce how to sign with timestamp.

So, when public cert is expired, just ova file is also expired.

This is problem.

Is it possible to include the advanced CPU settings for a VM when you build an OVF/OVA with ovftool?

My VM must have VT-x enabled (nested virtualization) and the default setting seem to be disabled.

Though --allowExtraConfig would do the trick but it doesn't help.

Please help me as I am trying to deploy my OVF in an esxi and I get the following error

"Failed to deploy OVF package: File ds:///vmfs/volumes/546b400f-680d4bc0-11f7-001517d3b60c/_deviceImage-0.iso was not found"

I don't know if I am correct if i deduce that the export might have an iso image mounted on it and now it can't locate it?

I exported the OVF from esxi 5.5 and the destination esxi is also 5.5.

I have also attached the screenshot of the error mentioned above.

It's working for exporting a template on one vcenter to another, but at destination the template became a virtualmachine.

I am trying to convert GNS3 WorkBench 12.3a into an OVA to install as a guest on ESXi 5.5

GNS3WB123.vmx is the file that I'm trying to convert to OVA

I have tried following the directions from https://www.vmware.com/support/developer/ovf/ovf10/ovftool_10_userguide.pdf

I continue to get failed messages. Is there anyone here that can assist with the OVF tool so I can run GNS3 as a guest, instead of installing on a guest Windows or Linux program?

    I have just exported an vApp using ovf from my vCenter v4u2. When I try to import into Vmware Workstation 7.1(running on Window 7 Ent 64bit) I get the following error message "The OVF descriptor file could not be parsed."  I have attached the log.

I am seeking guidance on automation\customization of an OVA deployment.

Looking to use an OVA due to it's compression ability which is favorable when needing to transfer a VMWare virtual machine from Host to Host for deployment at different location across a WAN.  In the past, we have created a VM template and provided customization file for deployment but the size of the template was too large for transfer across the WAN....so we would have to ship on seperate media.

I am looking to achieve the same end result of deployment of a vm template but through the deployment of the OVA template.

Here is where I am at so far:
1. Create the VM (in this case Windows XP SP3)
2. Export the VM to OVA Template.
3. Deploy OVA Template

All of the above works without any problem.  However, during deployment of the OVA, I would like to prompt the end user to input computer name, Fixed IP information or DHCP, domain to join, etc.  Additionally, I would like sysprep to run.

I have read the guide and numerous articles on the OVF descriptors, but not quite sure where or how to input these prompts so they appear during the OVA deployment.  Additionally, if I sysprep the vm before exporting to OVA, how can I get sysprep and the input from the end user deployment to work hand in hand.

Thanks in advance for any guidance or tutorial reference you can supply to help me understand OVA deployment of a single vm and how to configure custom settings during deployment with sysprep running.

I have just come across ovftool and was giving a try to it. I am fairly new to VMware world.

I have a  .OVF which I exported using vSphere client 4.0. This .OVF comprises of 3 Suse Linux based virtual machines. i.e. I created a vApp on ESX (4.1) host, in this vApp I put my 3 SLES VMs and then exported it as OVF.

It has a total size of around 4.5GB.

Now I ran this command to compress this .OVF as well as gave an option to create deltadisks.

Now when I checked my E:\ It had created a folder with the same name and put related files there. I saw a significant reduction in the new vmdk size. ( around 2.3GB now )

Now when I manually deploy this new ovf on vSphere client, it goes till certain %age and then flags an error:

Hi,

I have a ESXi 5.0 server running which has a Guest VM running CentOS 5.6.

The ESXi server is a standalone server, not included in a datacenter, not managed by vCenter.

The server has a HDD of 80G which has both the ESXi host & the Guest OS running on top of it.

I installed ovftools on my Windows laptop & tried to create a ovf from the VM but am unsuccessful. I constantly get the following error -

The local datastore name is "datastore1"

Can someone help me out here with forming the correct the ovftool command to create an ovf & possibly an OVA out of the running VM?

I have a Linux VM running on fusion, and using ovftool to convert this .vmx into .ovf, then import into a ESXi 5...unfortunately having this error message.

I tried the -lax option, but doesn't help...I look into the ovf file, and found it could be this section issue

After having made sure that such properties exists from the probe, I tried to use them to give the VM a static IP post deployment, automatically.

Hi,

I am deploying a VM using a OVA format. The  size of OVA format is 60 GB. Currently free space on my datastore is 388 GB.

At the time of selecting Disk Format type if shows me in red that the disk size required is 1 TB therefore you cannot select THICK provisioning.

Therefore, i selected THIN provisiong. It THIN provisioing i am showed that Estimated Disk Usage is 112 GB which is less than the free space available.

But even after selecting THIN proviosing at the time of deployment it throws an error that it cannot create disk as the size of disk is larger than the maximum specified limit. 

My block size is of 1 MB.

I'd like to change the hardware version during an export using ovftool. Is there a way to specify it ?
I've seen the "--maxVirtualHardwareVersion" but I'm unable to understand how to use it. I can't find any documentation on the supported syntax anywhere.


Any advice ?

Hi,

I am trying to deploy OVA using ovftool. I see the option --network and --net available for selecting the network by name, though I was not able to find a way to assign a static IP in the ovftool command itself. Something like --ip0=10.10.10.10. Is there a way we can do this? From UI when we deploy an OVA, we have provision to provide IP, Gateway, Netmask and DNS.

it is simple to export ONE vm in vsphere client to one OVA file (File ->Export->Export OVF template, and then select ova in dropbox). But is there a way to export multiple VM to ONE OVA files? Can use ovftool to do that?

Hello, I'm having some trouble getting both the vSphere Client and ovftool to

import my OVF's.  When using the vSphere Client, I successfully walk through

the wizard to "Deploy OVF Template", I click Finish on the final wizard screen

and progress dialog pops up.  It counts up to 100% complete while showing

"Deploying disk 1 of 1..." and then always fails with the following error

displayed on a popup window:

"Failed to deploy OVF package: The remote server returned an error: (500)

Internal Server Error"

I then tried using ovftool, to convert my OVF to VMX format.  Similarly, the

"Disk Progress" percentage counts up to 100% and then errors with:

Opening OVF source: stout-1-x86_64.ovf

Warning: No manifest file

Opening VMX target: stout-out/

Target: stout-out/stout-1-x86_64/stout-1-x86_64.vmx

Disk Transfer Failed           

Error: Failed to open source disk: stout-1-x86_64.vmdk

In both cases, it seems the problem is with my disk file, which is a

stream optimized VMDK.  Just to check, I verified that I was able to import

this exact same disk file built into an OVF 0.9 using Virtual Infrastructure

Client 2.5.0.  So, I'm at a loss as to what the problem may be.  Do you have

to build the stream optimized vmdk any differently?  Any other suggestions on

how I may be able to debug this further?

Using a seperate process (python-vm-builder), I am building an ESX/ESXi compliant image that I have confirmed can be uploaded, imported and started in Workstation, ESX 3.0, ESXi 3.5 and even Server 2.0+.

I'm trying to go into the next step now, and convert this ESXi Image into a single OVF archive for even easier deployments.

Using the latest OVF Tool I have successfully created the new .ovf and zipped it up inside a tar.gz'd.  On my Windows box, I then extract it (using WinRAR), then using 'Import' in VIC try to import it.  When I select the OVF and click next it then throws the below error:

An error occurred while parsing the OVF descriptor

Unable to parse XML element 'Envelope'

What am I doing wrong? 

I have attached both the original VMX and the new OVF.

I used ovftool (1.0 running in a RHEL 5.2 VM) to create an ovf of a powered off RHEL 5.1 VM.  All was successful and I can probe the OVF without issue.  However, when I try to import it as a virtual appliance using Virtual Center 2.5 Update 5 I receive:

An error occurred while parsing the OVF descriptor:  Unable to parse xml element 'Envelope'

I've attached the ovf file.

Any ideas?
